Memorial Day

We want to wish you a safe holiday weekend!

Memorial Day is a United States public holiday that commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country.

It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. It’s a time to honor and remember the heroes who fought for freedom and laid down their lives.

We Salute You!

AC Units

If you don’t want the air inside your home to get too hot, it is essential to keep your Air Conditioning system properly maintained. And is an important step in preventing problems before they occur.

When the temperature finally hits 70 degrees or greater is the right time to turn on your AC units. By doing this early on, any issues that arise with your units can be taken care of before the heat sets in from those unbearable summer months.

Things don’t usually need maintenance until it’s last minute.  You know the Summer months are going to be hot and you are going to want to chill down.

Ready…set..chilled?

Ankeny Summerfest Parade 2006 (112)

Stay Safe in Ankeny!

It is up to us that we work together to prevent crime.  By far, the most common threat to our home is burglary.  According to the FBI, a burglary occurs somewhere in the US every 15.4 seconds.

By definition, the crime of burglary is a non-confrontational property crime that occurs when we are not at home.  However, becoming a burglary victim can leave a family feeling vulnerable and violated.

Here are some suggested measures on how to properly secure the Doors and Locks of your home:

  • Use a solid core or metal door for all entrance points
  • Use quality, heavy-duty deadbolt lock
  • Keep  your doors locked, even when you are at home
  • Use a heavy-duty, four screw strike plate with 3-inch screws to penetrate into a wooden door frame
  • Use a wide-angle 160 degree peephole mounted no higher than 58 inches.

The majority of home and apartment burglaries occur during the daytime when most people are away at work or school.  It is important that you stay educated and smart when it comes to protecting your home and the people you love.

This information has been brought to you by the Ankeny Police Department.  If you would like more information on how to stay safe, log on to the Ankeny Police Department website.
